Crofton Nature Reserve
The Fox Chapel Area Land Trust has led and partially funded the successful effort to create a natural reserve and conservation education project on Field Club Road across from the high school in O'Hara Township.
The Crofton Nature Reserve includes a butterfly garden, meadow, wildflowers, songbird nesting boxes, interpretive signs, a bat hibernacula, a bee block and a walking trail. Partners include: Three Rivers Habitat Partnership, Township of O’Hara, Crofton Association, Fox Chapel Area High School and Audubon Society.
17th Century Strohm Cemetery
On a wooded knoll in northern Fox Chapel lies an old pioneer farm cemetery which originally belonged to Mary and Henry (David) Strohm, the first permanent settlers in Indiana Township. The Land Trust is working on an on-going basis to restore and maintain the cemetery. At least 80 people are buried here, including other Fox Chapel pioneers such as William Hart, Peter Weber, and Thomas and James Powers. H. Robert Bauman, II recently cleaned, recorded and photographed all of the stones and presented an album to the Genealogical Society of Western Pennsylvania. >>more information>>
Mapping
The Land Trust is taking on a comprehensive mapping project of all trails, parks and other open space in the Fox Chapel Area. Ultimately, this two-year plan will result in a map that will be made available to all residents.

We have exciting plans for 2012 including:
Building partnerships with all municipalities in the Fox Chapel Area
Partnering with O'Hara Township on a promising area trails project
Surveying and marking all Trust properties
Creating a conservation easement enforcement strategy for our holdings, and
Providing information on trust properties and projects as well as links to conservation information and tax advice on donation of property or easements
