Protecting Land
A primary goal of the Fox Chapel Area Land trust is to acquire and protect land, wetlands and green space. There are two ways landowners can contribute to this important goal – and a number of financial, community and ecological benefits that they can earn in return:
Donating Land
Landowners can leave a lasting legacy for future generations by donating a parcel of land and putting it under the Land Trust's permanent care. This Gift of Land is protected and managed in accordance with the donor's wishes. If you would like to be contacted about a possible donation, click here and complete this form.
The landowner may also donate property to the land trust, but retain a life interest for themselves and their family. This Retained Life Estate allows them to live on or use the land for their lifetime.
Conservation Easement
A conservation easement allows landowners to retain ownership of their land while placing protective restrictions on current and future uses, such as making the land accessible for recreational or educational uses. The easement is a perpetual, legal document and all future property owners are bound by its terms.
Financial Benefits
Donations of land, conservation easements or financial gifts may qualify you for significant income, estate, capital gains or gift tax savings. Since all financial and tax circumstances are unique, we urge you to consult your legal and tax advisors to fully appreciate the tax advantages of a gift to the Fox Chapel Area Land Trust.
